I have a few powered monitors already and it’d be nice if I could have them work double duty between my audio mixing (when editing) and watching movies when I’m not working. I know Atmos is a whole can of worms intended to be a money pit, but the tinkering aspect is pretty high up there on things I like doing.
I wouldn’t call it hacky, I used to use three generic stereo USB dacs combined in software and a cheap HTIaB dvd player combo kit as a 5.1 many many moons ago connected to an old ibook.
That was hacky.
Amazing! Did your ibook get so hot trying to run those DACs that the logic board fried like mine lol
No it was fine for years, later model G4 so had fewer issues than the earlier ones. But i think it was still the GPU overheating that killed it in the end, those ATI 9200s ran toasty once the thermal paste dried up and cracked.
Used to play COD 1 on that thing during lunch at school. what a life.
