    They’re doing it to get Starlink accounts unfrozen, but there’s a good chance it won’t be unfrozen till Musk pays twitter’s fines.

      I think it’s funny that he forced them to pull that card. It would have been much worse PR for Brazil if he adhered to the X ban and they seemingly cut off Starlink accounts just because he’s associated.

      Instead, he defied them in a public spectacle and ensured the world knew he was directly at the controls, which turned their hand. Now he will have to pay one way or another.

        There was a WhatsApp message (only way they managed to communicate) where someone on behalf of Starlink said something that cleared Brazil to treat them as operating under the same entity.

        Like, everything that is happening is because Musk just keeps making unforced errors.

        It doesn’t seem like any legal counsel has been involved at all, and he’s just keeps randomly saying the worst possible thing he can at any moment.

    Yeah, but some damage is already done, some contracts with public entities like the military and schools in amazon are now under investigation and may be cancelled.

    It’s weird how people on this site are super opposed to the US government blocking TikTok, but think it’s preposterous for Starlink to oppose blocking X in Brazil. Yes, I know Musk has a vested interest in not blocking it, but the root of both issues are the same.

      They’re not really though.

      Brazil’s complaints are about misinformation being actively spread on the platform, andTwitter not only failing to moderate it on their own, but refusing to moderate when the accounts are specifically pointed out either.

      The TikTok ban fundamentally goes back to the Chinese government controlling the company. Regardless of what TikTok and the government claims, only an idiot would believe they don’t have control over a social media platform based in China. Even if the servers are US-based, the Chinese government will have access whenever they want.
