There is precedent. I remember a news story about somebody that spent months tracking down a virtual opponent to stab them after losing a knife fight in Counter Strike (archive link).
Oh I think I’ve heard of this one. It’s honestly crazy what some people do over a videogame.
That’s nothing compared to the shit i’ve seen involving Eve Online. And I’ve had my life threatened a few times after rolling for loot.
Oh man, you just brought back a flood of memories. I played Eve for (checks notes) 12 years. The metagaming in that community is insane.
I’m not surprised, given the direction of the last few chapters.
