So, I looked it up after that GoT episode - the mechanics of chain shot was worked out in 1631: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chain_shot . 140 years later they’re fucking it up.
I imagine the thinking was that they wanted a longer chain. 230 years later, they decided that since it wasn’t broke, they desperately wanted to fix it.
Oh yeah I forgot about that. You can shoot chain shot out of a pretty standard single barrel cannon, right?
