  • the best answer I can find is that the Olympic committee protested that it would affect whether the Olympics would accept attendance in that city if they allowed it, maybe someone can do a deeper dive.

Of why it’s coming back - a) Trump repopularized execution, b) Pfizer caved to public pressure to stop producing lethal injection drugs and c) electric chairs aren’t humane and suffer the same issue as firing squad that executioners suffer PTSD, it’s not very humane - being painful, long and often taking multiple attempts until the victim has a heart attack, which they of course experience and then die.

It seems like the answer I can get is that nobody really likes killing people, those that do suffer PTSD, and the messier the method the more unpopular it is.

Probably, with a bit of reflection, many people don’t actually like the death penalty when it comes to being present at it.

  • In fairness I haven’t seen the show, I’m seeing a lot of parents say it’s for 13+ teens, and some say 8+.

It has swearing and jokes about sex. I was raised in a household where I couldn’t say “Damn,” “Fart,” or “Ass.” Two close friends of mine don’t care if their 6 year olds say “fuck.” And honestly, it seems like they have a closer relationship to their kids than I do to my parents (I love them and care for them, but our mode of communication is pretty formal).

Also, I was watching Urotsukidoji, Battle Angel Alita, The Guyver around 11-13 years which is probably way worse.

  • I’ve come to realize that a significant portion of people just think other people should die and that’s fair and they’re OK with being the ones to do it.

I saw an Instagram reel the other day of someone in the military describing the best way to decide who to kill and who not to as you storm a civilian building, plus the latest Behind the Bastards about Yarvin’s affect on JD Vance and their belief that violence / killing and enforced poverty / slavery is not only a necessary but desirable method of governmental change - not as a reaction to oppression but as administrative.
