Because I am a childfree harridan, I’ve given a lot of brainspace to the huge and unfair expectations placed on motherhood (which is a huge secondary reason I’m childfree, the first being that I don’t actually like kids). I was also an emotionally neglected and isolated child, so I have a great deal of affection for the responsive parenting content, but yeah, the Runa absolutely have a point here that it can make you neurotic to feel like you have to keep up with every hiccup of your child. I like the idea of spreading the burden across the community, maybe if I hadn’t been so isolated as a child, I would have been able to get more of my emotional needs met without an additional crushing expectation on my parents. But I expect that interferes with WEIRD (still funny) ideals about controlling your child’s environment in order to have some control over their future outcomes (often meant kindly, but my dad is a pretty anxious person who did a lot of controlling behavior).
