We went from somebody replacing de Vries next year, to him being replaced after the summer brake to this lmao. Dr. Marko doesn’t play around

I think RB leadership are concerned with Perez performances and so the timetable for finding a replacement had to be accelerated. This move gets them some good data on both Danny Ric and Yuki since they have sim comparisons of DR with Max and Checo now.

It’s been clear for a while that NdV does not have a future in Red Bull so no point in wasting time on him, as harsh as it sounds.

Helmut Marko strikes again! Now, who gets his seat? Lawson or Ricciardo?

Tough call. The return of Danny Ric would make for great TV but deep down I think Lawson should get his shot.

Putting Lawson in this shitbox mid-season is a recipe for disaster. Would make more sense to have him have a fresh start next year.

Good point. They swapped Gasly with Albon mid-season and that could have gone better. I’d still like to see Lawson get his shot at some point.

Yes and Albon already had some F1 experience. And that red bull was not easy to drive, but likely less of a shitbox than this years AT.

So Danny Ric back in to fight with Tsunoda and show if he has what it takes. Next year they get Lawson into the AT and whoever from the 2 got the better hang of it replaces Perez at RB? I just don’t know if any of the 2 would want to replace Perez, whoever goes to that seat is clearly a n2 driver with no shot at challenging Max and would quickly be stopped on their tracks if they tried.

I just don’t think anyone can compete with Max in that car, maybe ham or another top driver. They seeming were gonna let Checo fight with max, but then he shit the bed in Qualifying the past 5-6 races so doesn’t have a chance anymore, or are we saying RB has done it on purpose?! But do agree teams don’t want two number 1 drivers, after 2016 for merc, Baku and, way back, Turkey for RB, teams want a solid #1 and a competitive #2

I’m not saying they are doing anything on purpose based on this season, Checo let it slip in a few races and got himself into this position alone. But from Danny Ric’s season with RB I think it was obvious they realized they couldn’t have another driver fight for wins with Max, as Max was just way too dangerous fighting in those situations. So now they want a clear 2 to support Max and sit behind him, reaping the points to guarantee the constructors.

And I dunno who would want to take that role willingly

Edit: after a second thought my comment sounds like RB will have to force someone to drive for them lol not at all, I think a lot of drivers would be happy to drive for them. I just think that sitting on the shadow of Max all the time won’t be amazing for their career.

guys, I’ll take one for the team and get slaughtered weekly by Max. It’s a tough job but someone has got to do it

I actually was in an open practice session with him on iRacing before so I have relevant experience!

Totally agree no one want to be designated second best, just look at Webber, bottas, Rossberg, Barrichello! All great but just shells of themselves at the end! Look at how much life bottas seems to have after leaving Merc! Would be sad to see happy and bubbly ricciardo turn into that, but could see him enjoying a few years back near the top before retiring/ contract ending before the next reg change in 26

Yep exactly, but at the same time you would be driving for the clear number 1 team in the grid right now, there is no refusing that, even if you are putting yourself against the current best in the world (IMO) on the other seat.

I hope it will work out for whoever replaces Perez, if they even replace him. Right now AT has confirmed Ric is back, so it is not boding well for Checo

Tough for Nyck but F1 is a ruthless sport. At 28, Nyck is a seasoned driver and has likely shown what he is capable of and is unlikely to develop much further. I don’t see a reason for keeping him in that seat any longer.
