      That you can self-host your own Bluesky instance and communicate with other Bluesky instances. But as they explain, it works a bit different from ActivityPub instances.

        Oh! Interesting! Thank you. I think that sounds like a good thing, almost like what lemmy does ? (If I’m understanding this correctly?)

          A little bit like that, yes. But actually more like Matrix.

          But I doubt it will become very popular as it is incompatible with other federated networks and there is no real benefit in hosting an instance for yourself and other people due to how Bluesky remains a semi-centralized network regardless of the fact that you can now host part of it yourself.

          Put simply, yeah. lemm.ee can communicate with lemmy.world, and kbin.social, and mastodon.social, as they’re all “federated” with each other (like a federation of nation-states).

          In the future you might see bsky.social and bsky.io and bsky.jp etc etc, and they’ll be able to talk amongst themselves, but they won’t be able to talk Lemmy or kbin or Mastodon.
