Not much change from last week. Playing:

Borderlands 3 , my main PS game. It is really fun, story isn’t anything extraordinary but the gameplay is very enjoyable, so enjoying that. May go for a platinum, but not sure yet, depends if I am feeling same by the time I finish the game.

Horizon Chase Turbo is still in my “currently playing” list but no progress this week.

Hades is my primary switch game right now. It was going pretty good but now I am stuck at boss of region 3. In my last run, I was pretty OP and reached the boss with all my health and lives intact, still couldn’t kill it.

This is what I don’t like about roguelikes, if you die you have to start all over again, and you don’t always get great runs. Hades is pretty good in this regard as no run feel too bad, and you progressively get better and better, but still, getting stuck somewhere and then play the whole game to reach there just to die again and again can become annoying, and most of the times I don’t even reach that boss in the perfect condition.

Valkyria Chronicles, same as Horizon Chase Turbo, still playing it, but not progress this week.

What about all of you? What have you been playing?

    Same as last week.

Under Night In-Birth II [Sys:Celes] - I’m back on my bullshit again. Uzuki arc was fun, but when it comes time for bracket I gotta lock in. And by lock in, I mean still play like a clown.

Splatoon 3 - Didn’t have too much time to practice this week, but had one good session. Really trying to work on more actionable callouts, coordinating with our specials and planning a push together rather than merely announcing things after they happen.

Persona 4 Golden - Still just post-Kanji dungeon. At the rate I am going I will finish this game… someday.

Summon Night: Swordcraft Story - Man, forgot how annoying it was that you have to always go for weapon breaks against bosses or else you miss their blueprint forever. Also, RHDN shutdown has me wondering, if/when the third game’s translation patch ever gets finished, where do I even look to find out about it?

Slay the Spire - I can quit any time I want, I swear.

Mahjong Soul/Riichi City/IRL mahjong - Came dangerously close to losing my Master 1 rank on Soul, but got a few wins so I’m safeish now. I know I’m too reckless and I’m trying to work on that. I did play one of the best games I’ve had at club this week, had the discipline to fold several tempting hands and it turned out to be correct every time. Sometimes protecting second place through smart play is more satisfying than lucking into first.

Your gaming preferences are so different from me, it’s interesting to see what you’re doing.

Summon Night: Swordcraft Story looks pretty good. May give it a try if it ever ends up in NSO.

I’m not even sure who owns the rights to the series anymore since Flight-Plan went out of business a long time ago. Don’t know if it ever could get a rerelease.

Playing The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak!

This may sound kinda random, but one of my hobbies is mixing cocktails.

Why am I saying this? Because it’s fun seeing the adult cast of this game going out for drinks and actually recognizing what they are asking for 😄. Van’s sweet tooth definitely affects his taste for alcohol since he keeps asking for cocoa drinks like Alexander or Grasshopper.

Anyway, back to the game, I’m now on Chapter 5.

Chapter 4 and the Intermission were a huge boost in my interest in the playable cast. I’ve gotten very curious about Risette’s backstory, and Aaron’s chat with Van during the intermission was excellent and gave me a much better view on him. Also, Judith who was one of my favorite characters so far has officially joined the party.

The story escalated really quick after that, and right now I’ve reached a section where you can align with different factions depending on your choices during the game. I experiented a bit with the options I had available and they all seemed fairly similar in structure, but liked the idea overall.

    Faction choices

I ended up going with Heiyue. Felt more appropriate for Van to cooperate with a “gray” faction, plus I really liked the scene/backstory between Rixia and Judith.

Really curious how the scenes with Ouroboros go, it’s a choice I most definitely did not expect to see but sadly I didn’t have enough alignment with Chaos to try that one.

Alexander is really good, one of my favorites. I prefer to make it with Brandy/Cognac like the recipe I linked, but you can also make it with Gin for a different, stronger flavor.

Grasshopper looks and tastes like chocolate mint ice cream. If you like that flavor enough to want an alcoholic version then go for it.

Well I am strictly non-alcoholic, so they aren’t for me. Even without that, I am very picky about my food / drinks. Not that I don’t like to try new stuff, I just rarely like the things outside of my set taste.

That being said, Chocolate Mint ice cream is my favourite.

I’m very boring - most likely Animal Crossing and Ring Fit Adventure on switch and Slime Rancher 2 on xbox. Maybe do some stuff in my family’s Minecraft realm

Thinking about restarting Cozy Grove since I haven’t played it in so long, but I stopped because the lag got worse every time I got a new bear

These aren’t boring choices. And even if they were, as long as you are enjoying it what’s wrong with that?

Are you playing Cozy Grove on Switch? Sad to see it has performance issues, the game looked good and is on my wish list.

How are you liking Right Fit Adventure? I used to hear about it when it launched when haven’t seen anyone mention it in a long time.

Very true. I play what I like to call “brain candy” games. Nothing that requires too much thinking, as most of the day my brain is trying to run a marathon at a sprinting speed.

Yeah, Cozy Grove is on my switch. As you advance in the game, you unlock more map. More map means more NPC critters roaming around. I think I unlocked 8-9 bears before it got noticeable, but there are 17 in all and I don’t know if my switch can make it to that many.

I just started Ring Fit last week, as I found a good deal on an open box game. I’m still trying to get the leg sensor to register my movement correctly, but so far the levels are fun.

I was reading/watching some opinion stuff about Nintendo console owners only buying first-party games (in relation to WiiU and third-party support) and I realised I’m one of those people. I only have a couple of third-party games for Switch, and they’re probably among my least favourite, and going back further, like 75% of the games I had were first-party games. I don’t think it’s a bad thing, but I was just unaware I was one of those fans until I had a look at the games I’ve owned.

Anyway, I might be able to finish Skyward Sword this weekend.

Lots of people buy Switch just for first party, but many third party games, specially indies, sell pretty well on Nintendo. So people are buying those.

As for AAA third party games, can’t tell you the numbers, but they must be selling something if Switch keep getting them (of course, we don’t get most of new ones due to how old and underpowered Switch is in relation to current gen, and it seems even old ones have slowed down now).

Personally, I get all my indies, RPGs and most other non-action heavy games on Switch (unless there are any performance issues in Switch port).

Either way, nothing wrong with any of these approaches. Gaming is entertainment, do it where and how you enjoy the most.

How are you liking Skyward Sword btw? I still have to get it.

It’s fun in many ways, like the puzzles and the items, but coming from “new” Zelda, it’s actually really tedious to have to backtrack to old areas when you get a new item that unlocks another part. It’s such a staple of old Zelda (and many other games), but now I’m sick of having to visit the same places over and over again. The joy cons also suck ass because of their inaccuracy and gyro drift, but using button input (like using pro controller) is equally terrible because it uses the right analogue for the sword.
