We need to start taking it for what it is: these people have been conditioned by an actual disinformation campaign. It’s not that there are more dumb people. We have an entire segment of the population which has been systematically programmed.
People absolutely get conditioned to just accept certain crazy stuff and reject reason. But that doesn’t completely release them of the responsibility of being thinking human beings. Though it’s easy to not even try when what you’re conditioned to accept is part of your identity and those close to you.
But it can happen. I’ve been consciously tuning out various types of conditioned subconscious reactions for my entire adult life.
Oh, I totally agree. My comment was intended more to get away from the idea that these people are simply unintelligent, which I don’t think is the case.
100% they have a responsibility to think critically. Conditioning may make that difficult, but a lack of effort would be an entirely different thing.
Agreed here also. I would imagine there’s some kind of correlation with intelligence, but I also bet it’s even more intellectual laziness like you’re suggesting. And maybe coupled with some emotional immaturity. So many people just don’t like questioning themselves, and/or see questioning one’s ideas as questioning their worth as a human being.

There are a LOT of really stupid, really hateful people in the US.
My theory is that being stupid makes you hateful until you reach profoundly stupid and then you’re happy again.
Like, dogs are stupid, but they fucking love life. A piece of shit on the ground can keep them happy for hours.
What I’m saying here is maybe we’ve been going about this all wrong. Instead of trying to make the stupid people smarter, maybe we should be trying to make them stupider.
We’ll see if it gets legs like PG, but you’ve given it a damn good name either way. I hope this fades into memory quickly before people start making good on these threats.
And to think that there’s some couch out there sitting by a road that hasn’t been JD Vanced with all these bomb threats. Shame.
