I refuse to watch cable news, don’t have regular tv, and not a fan of visual media for news anyways. I would love something like a Lemmy/reddit mega thread where I can refresh and get up to the minute updates, but from professional news/journalists. But without the faux drama reality tv stuff that the cable news networks always do. I also love podcasts so if there’s a listening medium that isn’t overly dramatic that works too. Any suggestions?

    all of our media is controlled by capitalists so i plan on going with organizations that have had a reliable history within the last decade or so; like democracynow or npr.

      Is it bad that I get most of my non-local news from foreign sources? I do look at the AP and NPR but I usually go to the BBC or Reuters first and I almost always check the CSM for international stories I want more information on.

        Reuters, BBC are fine, AP as well. Al Jazeera is good too. Always be aware of the media biases, nevertheless. Look how they frame and write.

        Do they say:

        [ethnic thing] arrested and stopped by Police…
        or do they say:
        Police murders person…

        and;
        Trump victim of woke witchhunt / Harris loyal to Israel
        or:
        “The elections have started.”

        The BBC and Reuters have both gone way, way downhill in recent years, but the concept is reasonably valid. AP and NPR are still good. Aljazeera is actually pretty decent for US news, though I’m not sure if that’s true for US news related to the middle east.

        very true and if it weren’t for the tireless efforts of their journalists i would have classified it as the same category as the others.

        i think that the best you can do under the overwhelming circumstances in my country is to try and i think that they are trying despite their own biases manifesting themselves from time to time and their perpetual funding dance with partners like the imperial gov’t and the american oligarchs.
