That’s not fair. There have been other stories of Christian churches that have bought and canceled debt in this fashion (a couple examples, literally just the top search results):
The similarity here is that all of these debt purchases were actually through the RIP Medical Debt non-profit. It’s the scale of the buys that allow them to be bought at that rate, and any organization that can raise some thousands of dollars can wipe out millions in debt through this manner.
