I'm gonna try to clear up a few things Meta is not gonna buy Mastodon or any server, this is based on absolutely nothing and untrue. Yes, some of us indeed got contacted by Meta/Insta because they are working on a new social platform (this was in the news) and they are looking into joining the Fediverse (Mark Zuckerberg also told this in the recent podcast) SO. This contact was about a "heads-up" for a potential big platform to join the network and not for a "take over". [1/2]

    I don’t want any Big tech to join fediverse TBH. Because they will completely destroy it and will take control over fediverse. I don’t want fediverse to end up like Twitter and Reddit.

    There’s so much pearl-clutching in that thread.

    Remember when meta federated over jabber? It was awesome for a while before they left.

    Remember when aol finally got a compliant MTA? The world didn’t disintegrate much.

    I especially love the “well if you don’t agree with my specific point then you’re the actual devil” logic. Grow up, kids.
