or should I do it manually before posting photos I take for privacy?
I tested images with the default setup for pict-rs and it removed all exit data. Having said that you should test the instance your using with sample pictures and check for yourself. It’s possible to disable that feature if an operator really wants it on.
Yes, should be the same here on slrpnk.net
I am using a somewhat bleeding edge version of Pict-rs but kept the default settings for exif data removal.
As the person hosting, do you have a preference on uploading photos here vs linking to them? So far I’ve been putting everything on imgur
The way Lemmy currently proxies images is a bit strange. If you put an image on imgur it will be loaded directly from there for slrpnk.net users, but other instances will proxy it from their domain. Strangely this doesn’t happen if you upload them to a Lemmy instance directly.
I honestly don’t have much preference, but I will probably configure Pict-rs as some point to automatically bandwidth optimize image uploads (smaller size and webp format).
Maybe if you share an image in a local community, use the local upload function (so that images are better preserved) and if you share on a remote community use imgur or another external host? That way images are preserved best I think and it is also the best for privacy.
