Hi everyone, You may have noticed a small change on the website. From now on, upvotes work just like on Lemmy - they are equivalent to Mastodon’s “favourite.” You can boost a post using the button that replaced “favourite.” Another change is that you can now rate and boost your own posts. Boosting has a one-time effect - it elevates the post to the top of the “Active” list, adds points used for the “Hot” section, and appears as a boost on other instances.

A language selection dropdown has been added to the footer - thank you all for that!

It seems that the Docker update has also brought significant improvements.

Now, I want to focus on bringing the instance creation instructions to a satisfactory state.

I promise to get back to your questions and comments as soon as possible - there have been quite a few of them. But for now, I need to keep an eye on the queue charts to make sure I don’t stumble and accidentally cause problems for other instances ;)

Oh, and here’s some good news: my application for Fast Forward has been accepted, and I’ll do my best to make it truly thrilling here soon ;p

Meanwhile, I’ll be away for a bit, but I’m constantly monitoring reports, the matrix, email, and mentions.

Have a great day!

Oh, and the server may be under load for the next few hours because I had to clear the thumbnail cache.

Just switched from Lemmy since kbin seems more polished and active. Thanks for your hard work :)

Please could you explain this in terms that don’t reference other Fediverse systems? I don’t use Lemmy or Mastodon so I’m not really sure what this means.

(Edit: ignore this point, I’ve just discovered that “Active” is a sort category, like “Hot”, “Newest”, etc.) For example what is the “Active” list? I’m guessing the list of posts that are shown on the front page? or do you mean it will push my profile to the start of the “Active People” section on the right-hand sidebar?

And if I understand correctly, the “boosts” section on my profile is viewable to everyone? Also, is there a way to unboost posts? It seems that when I click the boost button again the number of boosts goes down, but the post is not removed from my profile.
For upvotes, these only change the number that is shown on the post itself? So people will not be able to see the list of posts that I have upvoted?

Oh good! What kind of timeline are you hoping to hit on the instance creating instructions? I was trying to set one up a couple of weeks ago, and just kinda got bogged down in it.

Not sure if you’re aware of that already, but the order of items for Activity is currently boosts, reduces, faves, which I assume is still a holdover from the old way to do it or at least it’s kinda unintuitive. Don’t think this is a particularly urgent issue, but maybe something to mark down for later.

This is amazing and right in line with how I expect the boost/upvote/downvote system to work. Thank you so much, I’ll be mindful to continue boosting the best comments and threads so people keep finding /kbin!

    Great work!

I tried a few things in the fediverse before kbin, but kbin has impressed me the most, and it feels “right” somehow. It’s where I’ll stay. In no small part thank to your effort and dedication!

Not meaning to complain but the boost / favorite switcheroo looked very confusing to me for most of today’s morning. But the more I think about it, the more sense it makes for my lazy brain. :)

    Great work, thanks!

Very cool! What kind of services does Fast Forward give you?

I’m asking because beehaw.org has mentioned that storage space is an issue for them. I saw a post where one of the admins said he was concerned that media-heavy communities (e.g. sharing gameplay clips) could be a problem for their instance. And the admins of lemmy.ml have just outright said “we’re full.”

Does fastly give you storage space?
