I think you’re thinking 4 year college, not 2 years. It takes a lot of effort and money to apply to a 4 year school. It takes like 5 minutes to apply at your local community college online and get a .edu email address, and it’s free.
Using .edu as some sort of validation is a terrible idea because it’s something anyone can get with just a few minutes of work.
No, it’s incredibly easy to get a .edu account.
Getting a free .edu account is trivial.
We have rubrics. Like if we’re asking for an AA degree, but a BS preferred, you’ll get tossed out if you don’t have an AA, you’ll get 1 point for an AA, and 2 points for a BS. But you’ll also get a 2 for a MA or DR.
It gets weird when it’s education and or maybe experience somewhere in the field… some people who write our job descriptions don’t think things through…
I brought this up a few years ago where I work. I want to have a team sanitize the applications before the hiring team gets to see them. Remove names, dates that can be used to construe an age, gender, etc. I hope this study helps me get my point across at next years EEO training.
I doubt it’s your name/ethnicity. It’s probably more that you’re over qualified and they’re afraid you’re going to work for 3 months before getting a better job better matching your qualifications. To be clear they shouldn’t discriminate because of over qualifications either.
I say this as someone who works in the public sector, for many years. Every year I have to go to an EEO training and they drill it home what we can and can’t consider. There’s no way they are managing to discriminate against white sounding names for a decade without someone blowing the whistle. I 100% guarantee some fox news watcher there is blowing the whistle for their 20 minutes of fame.

There’s stuff to block, but there’s stuff that should be banned too. I remember recommending some of the SQL reddits to coworkers just weeks before the jailbait crap hit the national news. It’s up to ernest how he wants to run this place, but I hope we don’t let the bar go too low.
I sent him one a few months ago, and it was gone within a few hours. I think he cares, but is swamped and probably gets a ton of BS.
It needs to be acted on though. We don’t want this to become a nazi bar. I hope he can figure out a way to share the load sometime soon.

Like how hard would it be to say that the admin’s behavior was unacceptable and it will be discussed internally. It seems clear to me (and most other posters there) that it was a one sided issue.
I’m not really sure where is good. It was nice to see some non-admins speaking up about it, but seeing the other admins circling the wagons when one of them is clearly in the wrong makes me weary of doing any more than lurking. 10A wouldn’t last 5 minutes there, but you have to worry about being berated if you’re not as far left as the admins even if you’re respectful.

It really depends on what you use. There are tools that will extract the different data streams inside the containers and you could add them to a different (compatible) container… However if you use some sort of converter tool, it may just read the data stream, decompress it and decompress it again which would under the best circumstances lose quality to it’s size.
There are 2 separate concepts I think you may be trying to merge into 1.
There are File Formats (also called Container format), like Audio Video Interleave, which is commonly identified with the .avi file extension, and Matroska Multimedia Container, which is commonly identified with the .mkv file extension. They define the structure and organization of data within a file. Ex the audio data starts at offset X, the video data starts at offset Y, en_us subtitles start at offset… etc.
Then there are Encoding Formats, like AV1, h.264, HEVC. These are algorithms that can be used to compress video for storage within a file and decompress the data within a file for display.
So I’m trying to get some info about an upcoming medical procedure. I wanted to make sure I get a balanced view so I asked 2 doctors, 2 people who once took a first aid class once at summer camp, and 2 who believe vaccines cause autism.
I’ve had success with trivial things, like write a log file parser with this pattern, or give me a basic 3 part left-right-center header in html. Works ok for trivial side projects. I would never trust it in production. Its a tool, nothing more at this point. Like an electric drill, better than a hand crank, but you still need to know how to use it.

It’s software that lives in the hardware. It provides low-level control and functionality specific to that device. It runs on the hardware itself, not the CPU of the computer.
For example, a hard drive. We don’t want the OS to have to know how to interact with every type of hard drive. Seagate does things differently than Western Digital, an SSD works very different than a hard drive, etc… The OS sends the same commands to all types of hard drives, but each hard drive needs to know how to actually comply with the commands. If the OS is asking for a dozen different files all over the drive, it would be dumb to try and read them all at the same time. The OS doesn’t really know where they are on the spinning disk, but the drive does. Firmware written specifically for the device can do a much better job planing how to fetch the data so the read head doesn’t need to go back and forth a bunch of times, but instead make one good pass fetching all the data as it comes to it.

This is an egregious abuse of the notice-and-takedown system, which is intended to resolve disputes over allegedly infringing material online. Again, youtube-dl doesn’t use RIAA-member labels’ music in any way. The makers of youtube-dl simply shared information with the public about how to perform a certain task—one with many completely lawful applications.
IANAL but probably shouldn’t have video on the site showing it downloading copyrighted music. I think that’s the crux here.

It is stupid easy to get a free .edu account. It will not hamper spammers in the slightest. Even if they don’t want to make a few .edu accounts a day to do their spamming, they can just buy .edu accounts in bulk for about 10 cents per. No one is making thousands of kbin accounts to spam from, they make a handful a day, and use them till they get banned. Then they make a few more.
.edu accounts are a terrible way to try and prevent spam on kbin. There is literally an industry around generating fake .edu accounts. You can buy them in bulk. Some colleges receive 10’s of thousands of fake applications a month trying to get free .edu emails.
