What are these hundreds of thousands of jobs? I swear the only reason capitalists are investing in AI is so they can try to get rid of workers

I think Canada can absolutely fight back against the tariffs, but I don’t believe any of the leaders would do it. Trudeau sucks and is stepping down and whoever replaces him is probably not going to be that much different. PP would sell out the country for a nickel.
Trump is going to be worse (long term at least) than Biden/Harris but the Democrats were doing everything they could to let Trump win. My cope is that the possibility of the Democrats winning was always just an illusion or at least a delay of the inevitable
I wonder if they are trying to flatter him to avoid talking about a forced sale. Apparently Trump is easily flattered by dumb shit.
Just so I understand, would a TikTok ban in the US be that impactful to the Chinese economy? Are you saying the sale of it can be a negotiation tool for a economic agreement between the US and China?
Jeez this is probably going to be as horrific as it sounds
I really hope they don’t sell, but I can see it happening because TikTok CEO is a capitalist at the end of the day
It definitely doesn’t warrant its cost and at this point just feels like a tech demo that no one can figure out how to monetize effectively. As well, the energy costs are just absurd for the purpose it serves.
I was thinking this would be an easy PR win for Trump to unban it, but now I’m not as sure. He probably has too many oligarchs in his ear that are dying to own a piece of tiktok or its market share that they would encourage him to ban it (assuming tiktok would not let themselves be owned by an American company).
I think ChatGPT is a good tool for studying, similar to how saying things aloud/writing things out is a good tool for studying because it forces you to think, except with ChatGPT you can have a back and forth. Verifying the output for truth also seems like a good exercise for learning (as long as you don’t use ChatGPT to verify itself)
The issue I see is you need to have some base of critical thinking skills and general knowledge to work from in order to get the most out of ChatGPT and I doubt most students are at that level. I don’t even consider myself at that level. I assume the worst and students are just taking the output and rewording it.
If we collectively agree ChatGPT is here to stay, then maybe we ought to teach how to use it in a productive way that doesn’t dumb us down. I know this isn’t a well-defined thing though but probably it would be worth researching. We live under capitalism though so the odds of that happening are probably next to none, but I’m thinking about what we should do if ChatGPT existed under a different system.
Yea as happy as I am to see a ceasefire, I feel like this changes the narrative for normies by alot. It’s easier to radicalize people when they think both sides don’t support them, but people who were solely pro-palestine might see this as Trump actually being on their side. This is all because the Biden administration were genocidal maniacs so anything less in comparison looks saintly. Regardless of what Trump’s interest actually are people will just apply whatever narrative they like.
We know even with the ceasefire that American imperialism in the middle east will not end with Trump (I’d be shocked) and I have been wondering what’s the proper way to continue radicalizing people without being insensitive.
Isn’t what hurt Intel was getting all this money from the government from the chips act but not being able to sell to China, which was their largest market, due to sanctions
Yea I tend to use “AI” as a term for generative AI, which I should stop cause of how broad it is. I definitely see the usefulness of machine learning models for research purposes. I haven’t heard of how it’s used in manufacturing and infrastructure though, interested in looking more into that.
I’m wondering what advantage, if any, does AI really give for a nation? All I’ve really seen is that it can make people in beauracratic jobs be a touch more productive, but these jobs are already bullshit to begin with and are not producing real value. All this is doing is reducing some of the costs so that companies can report a bit more profit for the quarter.
Then there’s all the slop AI can produce which doesn’t really mean anything for competitive advantage. And there’s also “AI integration” in products that don’t really need it. So yea unless some compelling use case for AI is discovered, I feel like it’s another crypto.
Looking at some posts on libsky, they’re coping hard and saying things like “it’s fine, because on the inside Trump is really angry about being the only felon president, and it’s gnawing at his insides”. They’re more delusional than MAGA
Tfw Iran cares more about protecting Canada from American aggression than Canadian leaders
Trump anti-Zionist arc?
I doubt it. Netanyahu will just name one one of the pieces of land he stole in Syria after Trump again and he’ll forget all about it and go back to glazing Israel.
Oh duh to build the infrastructure. Can’t wait for the only jobs in the future to be back breaking labour to build AI infrastructure while the Earth burns
