You could ask them I guess, or just wait and see whether the admins will start responding to the comments in this thread.
In the sidebar there should be clickable account names, so you can go to their respective profiles and check for any activity on their end (at least posts & comments, not their mod efforts unfortunately).
I have not been a mod of any sort of online community in like years but maybe I could give it a shot again. Communities I have been thinking of are CoffeeGoneWild, Grool, Softies and Precum. I prefer a somewhat easy start so I suggest I am not going to do all of them at once. I prefer to help running CoffeeGW and Grool over the others. For Softies and Precum I suggest looking at who is most active in there and ask those people, although if there are no other candidates I could still do it. I will leave the decision up to you.
I agree with you on downvotes as in I barely used them on this instance either.
If you are looking for a new main, have you considered e.g. lemmings.world (not to be mixed up with lemmy.world)? I have my current main Lemmy account on there and so far it is good (albeit is not as “tested by trial” as LemmyNSFW has been so far). It’s up to you though.
