The questions are usually very redditer patronizing, and some of them are thinly veiled marketing analysis to create value for future shareholders. they’re often saturated with butt created responses.

As to why the post in question may not still exist? I suspect substantial posts about bot saturation are probably filtered out.

I respectfully disagree. Ars Technica is not known for being a clickbait site. They are merely stating what platform(s) the malware runs on. It’s not an Android hit piece, and it’s not clickbait, it’s just a warning about buying cheap Chinese electronics that have access to your Wi-Fi.

The problem with turning victimhood and grievance into a cult is that you need persecution for it to work. Hence, fabricating opposition. Wokeness is just a way for the elder elite to heap hate on the youth that will inevitably replace them. Constantly reminding everyone that you are a patriotic Christian is just a means to try to seize the higher ground for cultural warfare.

I took this article specifically to mean, and that it was referring to, a new form of non-volatile solid state storage. Active memory is by definition, volatile. This article seems to be talking about non volatile RAM, fast enough to function as active RAM. This alone would redefine what a reboot is.

I’m interested in using gestures but I’m on a tablet 98% of the time. I even use a tablet for phone calls and SMS. Gestures feel too much like exercise on a bigger screen.

That totally sounds like something I would do for fun when I was younger and had less money. In those days, all my computers were hand built by me, often using spare parts from computers people didn’t want. I didn’t work much with laptops though. It’s a bit trickier, but with the right tools and with plenty of time watching YouTube videos, you can do almost anything nowadays, and save a bundle. Also, eBay is a good source of parts, tools and expired equipment. Chromebooks are creating huge amounts of e-waste because of expiration, so reclaiming and renewing them is something I consider very ethical.

There are mod projects documented on YouTube videos and elsewhere that describe how to do just that. If I remember right, it depends a lot on the specific chromebook and the manufacturer. If I were to buy a Chromebook, I would first find out whether or not it could be wiped and have linux loaded on it effectively. I would probably opt for a lightweight flavor of Linux so as to keep the device running smoothly.

We have to make the behavior of people that are destroying our global ecosystem shameful and intolerable, that’s how I see this article. I’ve never seen societal change occur without a collective shift in perspective. This article tries to make that process more understandable because we are short on time. It is a process that has been repeating throughout human history.

As far as personal efforts and struggle to help, I don’t really see it as relevant to this particular discussion. The contemporary human tendency to see global issues as a personal issue is decidedly Western. This goes beyond self, and the western obsession with selfhood. The fact that your efforts aren’t helping does not create a basis for dismissing and disregarding the severity of the issue. Forgive me if that’s rude, what I’m saying is this is not at all personal and about recycling habits. This is about creating a collective consciousness of disapproval that grows to a size where it can no longer be ignored or dismissed for the sake of profit and gain.

EOL. End of life. All Chromebooks have an EOL date after which they will no longer receive updates and can no longer be considered secure. All the software on them, including Chrome which is the core application, become unviable. When you find an unbelievably cheap Chromebook on sale, it’s because it’s EOL is close.
