I’m not saying you’re wrong. I agree. I’m just saying you could have said all that a looooong time ago instead of wasting time being coy

This was pretty much assumed to be dead in the water after Gaetz resigned. It could have been, but the fact that the Republican-majority house committee isn’t 100% jumping at the opportunity to sweep things under the rug is a thing that’s happening. Maybe it won’t go all the way, but they are discussing. That’s a thing that’s happening.
Now, if it were one of those “(person) should do something” or “(committee) could do this thing that’s in their power on paper but totally in the author’s imagination in practice” things, sure. But you’ve got people talking about releasing a report on someone arguably not in their jurisdiction. That’s something.
My father-in-law lives in his old district. I remember the name from that and
Duffy resigned his seat effective September 23, 2019, to care for a newborn daughter with a heart defect.
I guess that was longer ago than I remember (and in that time I had my own daughter born 3 months early. If I had the luxury of being able to quit my job and know I could keep my family afloat I would have done the same). Wonder how she’s doing now…
… And I just looked it up before posting. Daughter has Down Syndrome, and her mom brought her on Fox News in what turned into an anti-choice bit with her saying other countries are “exterminating” Down Syndrome “Nazi style”. Gross.
They do get a whole lot of advertising, social capital, and influnce over which causes get proped up, on the back of donating customers
Sure, but that’s not a tax write-off as originally said. Stick to the things that are actually things.
while you’re out a few bucks that you could have pooled for a single charity and gotten a tax receipt of your own for
If your donations for the year exceed the standard deduction (hint: the standard deduction is about $15k. Most people take that instead of itemizing). Doesn’t have to be one single donation, and if your receipt shows the donation (it should) and it’s for a legitimate charity I don’t see why you couldn’t use that to deduct that donation if you itemize.
And a lot of people think (not unreasonably IMO) that it hinges on the involuntary labor. I’m all for strong arguments and being accurate or whatever, but even if someone is one of today’s ten thousand it doesn’t do any good to insult them and repeat your unsubstantiated point. You know why this doesn’t perfectly fit the dictionary definition of slavery, we don’t. Is it too much to ask for you to tell us that detail, if you’re going through the trouble of commenting?
I’m a random guy on the Internet. Frankly you should be doing your due diligence the same way you would on a Google search result anyway.
While Google has been circling down the toilet lately, if you at least try searching for what you want, and use half a brain to think about what you’re looking at, it’s not exactly super difficult. I have to Google similar stuff for work sometimes, and .gov is pretty much a sure thing that you’re getting a government source, which is pretty good when you’re looking for a government’s laws. I also get different major colleges, which is just as good. Especially since you’re reading legalese, not commentary on the law or whatever.
I think the natural peanut butter - the kind that separates easily, could be better described as “gritty”. Jif is not that, though.
This is exactly why the OP exists! My state has been solid blue for a decade now. I trust my senators not to vote to confirm AG Gaetz, but they NEED a few Republicans to join them. It looks like Collins and Murkowski have come out against him. We need a few more, and OP is saying that calling is one of the few things that may influence them. Certainly more likely than bitching on Lemmy.
The one tradeoff to having Democrats representing me in Congress (both house district and Senate) is that I don’t have anyone to call over stuff like this because they’re already on my side… Although for some reason my governor (who has been awesome otherwise) has been praising RFK for HHS, so maybe I’ll need to call his office and my senators about that one. Anyway, PLEASE don’t fall into the opposite trap and give his office a call!
If “has an owner” is what everything hinges on, and the Department of Corrections or whoever has full custody and control doesn’t count, fine. I guess that’s technically in the first definition that came up. But Jesus Christ, when the vast majority of conditions match up, you sure spent a hell of a lot more time puffing your chest and acting high and mighty instead of, you know, explaining why it isn’t. You had to go through a few responses before any explanation at all!
It can be called slavery while still being permissible under the constitution. It’s not illegal slavery, just like pre-civil war slavery in the south wasn’t illegal… But it’s still slavery.
Absolutely nothing you say contradicts “credibly accused of”
If you’re going to name it after someone, maybe try the guy in Israel actually directing the damn thing?
But how do we know an s will be the next letter? 😟
I’ve always emphasized that gasoline comes from oil. Electricity comes from oil. Or solar. Or nuclear. Or wind. Or hydro. Or hamsters running on wheels. Lots of sources to choose from!
Oooooh. My great-grandma had a clam chowder recipe that uses salt pork (similar to bacon). I bet spam would be an amazing substitute!
I don’t like soup weather all that much, but soup sure does make it bearable
Only 1/4, apparently
Oh no, I wasn’t trying to disprove your point at all! Just showing how extreme the situation needs to be to justify a suit. From what I remember most of the guests didn’t wear a suit either, but I can totally see it being a thing on the east coast.
My friend is an ESL teacher. I sent this to her and said it’s probably the most cruel thing she can post in her classroom
