When the whole Reddit fiasco started happening, I saw a lot of people wiping and deleting their Reddit accounts and moving elsewhere, like here on Lemmy.
Now that it’s starting to die down a little bit, does anyone regret doing that? Or are you glad that you took that step?
I deleted my 12 year post history but my karma is still there.
If you want to browse there… whatever. No one cares.
Those of you hoping for a spectacular collapse… well, I have news for you: it’s unlikely to happen and if it does, it’ll be death by a thousand cuts. I legitimately think that place is going downhill and it’s been getting noticeably shittier for years but I don’t think lemmy is currently more than an annoyance for Spez and the board.
I’m getting my subscriptions set back up and I just want to post in peace and not be concerned about reddit already. What this place lacks in users it makes up for in quality
Meh… For those who regret their decisions (please don’t), a new account can easily be created. Karma is gamification, it is meaningless.
Haven’t deleted mine, but haven’t been back there either. If I deleted it, I wouldn’t miss it. Though at some point I image the account will expire due to inactivity.
I kept my account, but deleted most of my posts/comments from the past thirteen years unless I felt it was super important to leave them. Some I’m leaving while watching to see what happens with the subreddit.
I’m done with Reddit though. I didn’t care so much about the API, but when they started lying about talks with the developer and then running roughshod over everything it became clear that they can’t be trusted. How do I know that I’m even being presented with an accurate view of the world – are the moderators hand-picked by Reddit to push an agenda? Can a corporation/government/political campaign buy moderators brokered through Reddit now?
Too many questions with no good answers. So I’m glad I’m gone.
No.
Nope.
If you are, is there any reason why you couldn’t make another?
Nope. In fact, I’m feeling pretty good about it.
Haven’t deleted mine, but I was mostly a lurker there anyways. So if I do, it wouldn’t mean much. Maybe I’ll interact more here, since many are saying the community is better.
The trick is to keep getting banned enough times that your profile is meaningless.
Didn’t delete my account, just overwrote all my comments with a message to corporate Reddit and Spez in particular and deleted my posts. Didn’t want to delete mainly because a deletion can happen for any reason, I rather wanted to send a message that can be seen.
Regrets? Yes, but overall it was worth it.
Do I regret leaving a toxic relationship? No, and neither does my mental health.
Nope. The content and community on the fediverse is so much better, and has improved immensely in the last couple weeks. It’s almost like the Eternal September never happened.
It’s probably the healthiest decision I’ve made all year.
I don’t understand why people are voluntarily deleting their accounts instead of removing or editing their comments and then getting banned. It’s not like reddit has earned a silent exodus.
14 years on the site, 58K+ post Karma, 130K+ comment Karma - Deleted it all yesterday. It was actually liberating in some odd sense.
