Saying “quit meth” is cheating + I’m kinda trying anyways.

I’ve always had problems with food/eating since I was a kid, but it’s gotten pretty suck. I think part of what made me stop being able to see myself as femme was, in fact, becoming so thin, with my gaunt face and bony hips and what I think is some sagging skin from rapid weight loss (I’d really like to get rid of that shit too, especially on my neck).

Last couple weeks I’ve been turning things around, starting to eat more, but I have a difficult time with appetite, and this pickiness I’ve had since I was a kid. Most things I could buy ingredients for and “make at home” are unappealing. I keep going to the store to buy food and walk out with fucking candy.

The appetite takes a while to return. Like your stomach literally shrinks from extended periods of little eating.

I’ve been able to put on 35lbs since quitting stimulants ~6 months ago, so I really do think that is a big factor. If you’re able to use a blender, something like this combined with peanut butter, milk, bananas, can really help with getting calories without the feeling of fullness or the “ick” I was getting with heavy meals while I was using and shortly afterwards. Honestly, you could just use water if you’re not able to store milk.

They do sell these kind of shakes pre-made, but they are ridiculously expensive.

It’s unhealthy but ice cream usually does it for me. I was pretty underweight for my height and extremely bony but after eating ice cream everyday I’ve managed to gain lots of weight over a month. It also helps if you eat a lot before you sleep because the metabolic rate slows down during rest which means your body isn’t working as hard to burn off calories if you were awake. There’s loads of ice cream options too and they’re all pretty good, it also helps if you let it melt so you can drink it. I say ice cream instead of milk because ice cream has lots of sugar which turns to fat

If you have a blender, you can also throw a ton of oats + a bunch of peanut butter and a banana with some soy drink or whatever in there. It’s all pretty affordable and easy to adjust to taste and caloric content.

  • I don’t use meth but adderall does the same thing where I don’t have any appetite and I also never enjoyed eating as a kid.

Currently my strategy is eating horribly unhealthy food that I find tasty since that’s probably better than starving myself.

I’m trying to make a habit of snacking healthy foods like nuts or fruit/vegetables while doing something else so I don’t have to focus too much on the eating part.

If I go too long without food I have trouble starting to eat again. Try eating like half an apple. Get a little fuel in your reactor to get your digestive system going. Wait half an hour or an hour and then try eating something more substantial. If you can’t just finish the apple. “Eating restores appetite” is the idea. It can also help when you are sick and don’t feel like eating anything. Soup is always good if you aren’t feeling up to eating. You can sip the broth and let that kinda fill you up, you’ll get some nutrients, and it will feel warm and soothing on your tummy.

talk to a doctor if you can before going all out on this kind of thing. in the US it’s dieticians who are a registered profession, nutritionists are snakeoil.

once you’re just trying to get more calories, eating quickly will let you get more in before the stomach sends its fullness response as those of us with the opposite problem know.

Never had that particular problem, but I was obsessed with shit like peanut butter, or cold fried chicken, or what have you as a child, and I’ve not been homeless or taken uppers so I guess that helps.

Dense foods and taking it slow is probably the name of the game. or maybe not even dense foods right out the gate, but you know. If you have a favorite fast food slop place thats not a bad idea (well okay not great on the wallet but it is designed to be hyper palatable)
