When I was about 12, I had some neighbor friends that were older than me. Steve couldn’t come hang because he had a job as a bus boy at a local diner. Another friend starting calling him a loser with a crappy job, and being stupid kids, we all joined in.
Later on, my dad pulled me aside and said “I heard you making fun of Steve. I never want to hear you mocking someone else’s job ever again. Not everybody can have a glamorous job, and no matter how gross or stupid you think it is, someone has to do it, and unless you’re willing to do it yourself, you should appreciate the people who are.”
It hit home that day, and since then, I’ve had enough crappy jobs to REALLY understand what he meant.
