God help them. The slaughter to come is probably beyond our imagining

Is anyone watching boomer news coverage of the Palestine thing?

    Because holy shit.

I am going to lose my mind.

The propaganda is disgusting. They’re painting Palestinians as baby-killing anti-semitic terrorists.

Right now they have an Aussie actor saying how unprovoked the attack was and how Israelis “are just like us.”

Like just blatant lies and manipulation.

This just fucks me off so much. Just pure evil.

I support whatever Palestinians support, I trust that they understand the stakes better than anyone else. To me, the timing seems as good as it could be: massive political instability in Israel, west distracted in Ukraine, Iran seems ready to support, and the Saudi-Israeli normalization talks were happening this week and making progress. This offensive and whatever retaliation Israel attempts could derail that entire agreement.

Do you really think Palestine would value your “pity” more then shows of support and solidarity because your supposedly “non-western?” Why even bother making this thread if they were such fools in your eyes for even trying?

Netanyahu has just said live on television that they will ‘turn Gaza into a deserted island’.

I’m hearing very indirectly along grapevines that among Israelis, including liberals, the mood is becoming - and I quote verbatim - “kill them all”.

Reddit world news thread on this is making my head explode. So many people that have no knowledge of history, but this one made me laugh

I really don’t think Hamass [sic] knows what it’s done

Yes, what they truly need is a random redditor to explain the politics of their actions to them.

Member of the Knesset Ofer Cassif told Al Jazeera that his left-wing Hadash party had repeatedly warned that the continued Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories would lead to events like this, where innocent civilians on both sides pay the price. He called the Israeli government “fascist,” and accused it carrying out pogroms and ethnic cleansing against the Palestinian population.

I’m reading Torkil Lauesen’s The Principal Contradiction. It’s an excellent book and I’ll write up a review at some point, definitely recommend it. But in it, while Lauesen acknowledges that general contradictions like “workers v. capitalists” and “private profit v. socialized production” are always important, it is the contradiction between imperial core and periphery that is the principal contradiction right now. That’s to say, it is the contradiction that is most critical at this moment to the further development of capitalism.

I think he is correct. And if that’s the principal contradiction, then to me where you stand on core versus periphery is the most important stand for any leftist to take. That separates the wheat and the chaff. And there are few places in the world (with the exception maybe of eastern Ukraine) where core and periphery are in greater physical conflict than in Palestine.

So fuck Bernie, fuck AOC, fuck Cornel West, and fuck any other “leftist” (including in this thread) who expresses anything other than uncritical support for Palestine in this moment.

The Israelis have the power to end the political and economic conditions (which they created and maintain) which lead to violence

    The Palestinians do not

If you’re saddened or angered by the deaths of Israeli civilians, you can take those complaints straight to the Israeli government. Any handwringing about violence committed by the Palestinians is de facto support for the illegal occupation of Palestinian land and the apartheid state of Israel.

I think it doesn’t help to turn the focal core of what you’re upset with to that, in this moment. Yeah, it sucks. But tell me why I should look a Palestinian 8-year old in the eye and tell them their parents deserved to be tortured and killed. A tiger is backed into a corner and stabbed repeatedly, and swipes out with its claws — if you’re unhappy with who it hits, let’s root for the tiger to liberate itself so there isn’t a need for any swiping. And let’s also be upset with the assholes who would put their children in the way of a cornered tiger as a means of controlling it

Tell me why I should look an 8-year old Israeli kid in the eye and tell them they deserve what’s coming to them

Not in the least what I said, but if you need a reason, it’s a pretty funny thing to go around doing

  • Uprising? I’m sorry, but the civilians in Gaza aren’t doing any glorious uprising they’re hiding from the barrage of Israeli rockets being launched that are leveling their city.

An uprising is not a coordinated military effort, and while I am on the side of the oppressed, i am not going to use a bunch of justifications to dismiss the trauma being inflicted on civilians because they had the gall to be born to parents who decided to move to occupied Palestine.

Sometimes I really wonder how many of you actually care about human life and how many of you care about evening the score.
